Summer Opportunities for Youth

FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

  • The Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University compiles a list of summer internships across the US in leading research organizations. The focus is on science and engineering.

  • For high school students with the entrepreneurial bug, TiE mentorship & business plan competition offers a program for high school entrepreneurs, worldwide (TYE TiE Young Entrepreneurs)

  • Rochester Institute of Technology maintains a nation-wide list of summer internships for high school students in the life sciences

  • The MIT Edgerton Center hosts programs for high school students in the Boston area interested in engineering. Apply to the Engineering Design Workshop's 5 weeks summer camp program by mid-April.

  • You GO Girl! A five day MIT Edgerton program for girls entering 9th grade and interested in engineering will be held August 5-8, 2019. Apply in April.

  • Teen Life compiles resources for Grades 7-12 on gap years, summer programs and volunteering

COLLEGE INTERNSHIPS

  • Rochester Institute of Technology maintains a nation-wide list of co-ops and summer internships for college students

  • Cornell has an extensive list of summer research internships in biology and the health sciences

  • If you are a MA resident or student looking for an internship in Robotics, IoT, Cybersecurity or Digital Health, then your employer can receive up to $8/hour towards your pay. Employers need to apply to the MassTech internship program to reserve their funding.

  • Snagajob has part-time jobs from companies, stores, fast food … all the big brands you’d expect on a national part-time job board

  • AnyIntern has internships around the country, searchable by metro region. It seems most of their jobs come from CareerJet

  • Way Up is one of the few with a nice diversity of internship categories, searchable by metro region. You can't do sub-category or keyword searches, though. A student has to enter all his/her info to be shown relevant jobs.

POST COLLEGE

  • Way Up started out focused on campus rep jobs but has grown to focus on jobs for students graduating college. They also have college internships. Students upload their resume, then employers pick them

  • Indeed has become the biggest jobs site. It consolidates info from everywhere. You can do targeted searches and can get job alerts. You can also upload your resume for employers
