Lexington Symphony Brings "Concert in the Round" to Winchester

Lexington Symphony Brings "Concert in the Round" to Winchester

Lexington Symphony caps off its 20th anniversary 2014–2015 season on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. with its annual Concert in the Round program. Situated in a circle formation in the middle of Winchester Town Hall (71 Mount Vernon Street, Winchester, MA), the Symphony will present a lineup of musical pieces selected and performed in succession by ensembles from the orchestra.

Devised to eliminate the traditional boundaries between orchestra and audience, the Concert in the Round program gives audience members a unique perspective by enabling them to sit amongst the Symphony’s musicians during the performance. The relaxed format and informal atmosphere of this pre-summer evening concert translates into an intimate and immersive musical experience, as concertgoers get up close and personal with Lexington Symphony Music Director Jonathan McPhee and orchestra musicians.

Representing music from seven countries around the globe, the program will feature a brass quintet performance of John Cheetham’s Cherzo (USA); a string performance of Javier Alvarez’s Metro Chabacano (Mexico); Jean-Baptiste Arban’s Fantasie and Variations on The Carnival of Venice (France/Italy) performed by trumpet and strings; Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll (Germany); Jacques Ibert’s Cinq Pièces en Trio for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon (France); a string performance of Antonín Dvořák’s Nocturne, Op. 40 (Czech Republic); and Malcolm Arnold’s Quintet for Brass, No. 1, Op. 73 (United Kingdom).

A pre-concert Q&A with Music Director Jonathan McPhee and orchestra musicians will be offered at 6 p.m. Concert in the Round seating is unreserved; audience members can change seats between musical pieces. Tickets, which are priced at $40 for adults and $15 for students, can be purchased online at www.lexingtonsymphony.org, by phone at 781-523-9009, or at the door.

LexSIX and LexFOUR subscriptions for Lexington Symphony’s 2015–2016 season, which offer up to a 15 percent discount off ticket prices, are available for purchase now. Tickets for individual 2015–2016 Lexington Symphony concerts will be available for sale beginning August 15th.
